Anti-imperialist island chain against the NATO base

The Samos Peace Committee (member of the EEDYE-Greek Committee for International Disarmament and Peace) and the Samos Labor Center are calling for a PanAegean mobilization against the creation of a NATO base in the Aegean that was announced by the SYRIZA-ANEL government. The mobilization will take place on Thursday, 18 June at 7.30 pm; it will take place in all islands at the same time, so as to raise a popular wall in the defense of national independence and sovereignty and to create a human, anti-imperialist and pacifist chain from Lemnos to Kastelorizo. This chain will shout:

- No to the plans of the SYRIZA-ANEL government for a NATO base in the Aegean.

- No involvement of our country in the imperialist interventions of NATO, the EU, and the USA.

- No earth and no water to the murderers of the peoples.

In their joint press statement, the Samos organizers state:

"Dear colleagues and militants, through everyone's participation, we have built a dynamic coalition of institutions of the labor and popular movement in the islands of the Eastern Aegean. This is a coalition that we believe will be come even stronger in our common goal of preventing the installation of a NATO base in our region.

Having the conviction that our opposition to such a base must be expressed in a mass and militant manner, we call for a Pan-Aegean mobilization on Thursday 18 June at the same time (7.30 p.m) in all islands.

In this manner, there will be a chain of demonstrations, a popular wall of defending our national independence and sovereignty."

Speaking on 902.gr webradio, Vaso Vrynioti, Chair of the Samos Labor Center, noted that the creation of a NATO base hides huge dangers for all Aegean island inhabitants, as it places them at the epicenter of imperialist interventions and plans in the broader region.

At the same time, there is an ongoing collection of signatures against the creation of a NATO base from institutions, unions and associations in the islands.
